Salmonella cases prompt seed powder recall

Health Matters America Inc. is recalling its sprouted chia seed powder products following reports of Salmonella poisoning associated with its consumption, Food Safety News reported on June 5.

Sprouted Chia and Flaxseed Powder from the Organic traditions brand were affected.  The products were sold to distributors and directly to consumers over the internet in 25 states, including Georgia. Illness from salmonella was reported in 17 people in the U.S. and 24 people in Canada. No other Organic traditions products were affected. Consumers are urged not to consume the recalled items and to contact Health Matters America Inc. for questions.
