Runaway big rig left one mother dead

A driver is facing multiple charges after failing to set his big rig’s parking brake for a pre-trip inspection, causing it to roll down into the northbound lane of Highway 41 in Emerson and hit a Toyota Tundra, killing one occupant on impact and hurting three others, 11alive.com reported on Saturday, August 15.

The incident, which happened on Thursday evening, left a 31 year-old mother of two dead. Meanwhile, her two kids were rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in serious condition. The father, who was driving the pick-up truck, was also transported to another hospital after sustaining non-fatal injuries.

Authorities believe the driver of the runway truck was under the influence of drugs when the incident happened. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and first degree vehicular homicide, among other charges, and was set to a bond at $35,000.

Our team at Ausband & Dumont sends our sincerest, most heartfelt condolences to those affected by this tragic loss.
