Truck plunges into Savannah River after crash

A truck was pushed into the Savannah River off of the I-95 bridge after a collision that occurred on October 14, Georgia State Patrol (GSP) reported.

Sergeant Chris Rodewolt of GSP said that the white truck, along with the portable toilets it was carrying, was hit from behind by a tractor-trailer, causing it to slide over the rail and into the river. The police found the driver sitting on top of the truck when they arrived. According to WTOC, Port Wentworth Fire personnel were able to get a life vest to the man and ensure his safety while he waited for a rescue boat to arrive. The driver was taken to the hospital once the boat was able to reach him, and the extent of his injuries are still unclear. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The extent of the damage caused by the crash was revealed when authorities were finally able to pull the truck from the river. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
