Two-vehicle crash kills Florida woman

On the afternoon of Thursday, November 1, a 56-year-old woman from Florida died after the SUV she was driving collided head on with a log truck on Georgia State Road 85 in Ellerslie. According to a statement given by Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley, the woman driving the SUV was headed south on 85 just past the Green Acres Subdivision when her SUV crossed the median line and collided with the log truck that was heading north.

Apparently, the woman’s SUV caught on fire after the collision, and the woman became trapped inside her vehicle. Several bystanders attempted to help the woman, but neither they nor medical responders were able to get her out of the vehicle. The woman died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the log truck, who was not found to be at fault, also sustained significant injuries. He was transported to Midtown Medical Center in Columbus where he is being treated. The extent of his injuries is not available at this time.
