A two-vehicle crash kills one, injures 43 in Gilmer County

A collision between a semi-truck and a commercial bus led to the death of one person and over 40 other injuries on Thursday, October 13 in Gilmer County. The crash occurred about 15 minutes after 11 a.m. where Whitestone Road intersects with Georgia State Road 515.

The bus, owned by Greatime Getaways from Marietta, was boarded by 47 people—who, according to a witness, appeared to be elderly—and their driver. They had been headed north when the truck, which had been headed west along Whitestone Road and had made to turn south onto SR 515, was forced to stop in the middle of the intersection, the trailer still sitting in the northbound lane. The bus struck the back corner of the truck.

There were 43 people among the injured, one with severe to life-threatening injuries. The driver of the bus was killed in the accident. The company who owns the truck, Polcon, Inc., has had no major safety violations in the last two years of operation and the investigation continues.

The Atlanta truck accident lawyers of Ausband & Dumont send their condolences to the victim and their family, as well as wish every injured person a speedy recovery.
