Cubicin recalled for potential foreign particulate matter in drug

Cubist Pharmaceutical Inc. has announced a nationwide consumer-level recall of its intravenous antibiotic medication Cubicin following reports of particulate matters detected in the drug, MarketWatch reported on August 10.

The affected products are Cubicin 500 mg in 10 mL single-use vials with lot numbers CDC 203, CDC 207, CDC 213, CDC 217, CDC 226, CDC 234, CDC 235, CDC 243, and CDC 246. Consumers and healthcare providers are urged not to administer the product and to contact the pharmaceutical company for product replacement.

When taken intravenously, foreign particulate matters may cause life-threatening medical complications, such as pulmonary embolism, phlebitis, and thromboembolism.
