Truck driver killed in Hall County crash

A 49-year-old truck driver from Fletcher, North Carolina was killed after the tanker truck he was driving was involved in a single-vehicle crash on December 16. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the tanker truck was traveling northbound on Interstate 985 at the Plainview Road overpass in South Hall County when it crossed the center line before veering off the highway while driving around a curve. When the vehicle struck a guardrail, it reportedly swerved back and rolled over before hitting another guardrail and a bridge support.

The truck was carrying dry concrete at the time of the collision. According to State Patrol Captain Allen Marlowe, it is unknown what caused the driver to leave the road before the collision. The man was pronounced dead at the scene after he was ejected from the tanker.

Speed is being considered as a factor in the tragic accident. According to one witness who was also traveling north on the road, the tanker passed him shortly before the collision. The witness told officers that he was traveling at 70 miles per hour, the speed limit on that road, at the time.
